Weekend competition round up, Nov. 11

Speech and Debate, Band and the Academic Team bring in big wins over the weekend

Staff

The weekend of Nov. 11-12 was a busy one for the Eagles as they competed all over the OKC metro and beyond in band, speech and debate and academics.

All City Band

The following members of the band earned spots in the OKC All City Honor Band, a group which will meet for a rehearsal and concert in January: Simone Pico, 3rd chair horn; Joseph LaSala, 2nd chair trumpet; Evan Reynolds, 5th chair trumpet; Gage Catteeuw, 10th chair trumpet; Maddie VanSwearingen, 4th chair trombone and Gwendolyn Herrada, 8th chair percussion.  Alternates: Violet Parrott, clarinet and Eduardo Benitez-Mejia, trombone.

Academic Team

Captain Jake Lange led the team to a 2nd place showing at the OSSAA Regional Tournament in Prague, OK. Contributing to the team were seniors Aanahita Ervin, Zach James, Mark Mayes and sophomore Sean Dobson.

Speech and Debate

The speech and debate team came in 2nd overall in sweepstakes at the Westmoore Jag Invitational meet. The team currently has 22 events qualified for the OSSAA Regional Tournament in March 2018. Placing at this weekend’s meet are the following:

Original Oratory: 3rd– Maddy Fresonke, 2nd– Alisha Hemani, 1st– Nikita Lewchuk

Standard Oratory: 3rd– Dennis Green

Poetry: 3rd– Lily Waswo

Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking: 5th (qualifying due to previous qualifers)- Anna Martin, 3rd– Maddy Fresonke

Humorous Duet: 1st– Madeline Cassady & Donna Thompson

Humorous Interpretation: 2nd– Jack Franklin

Lincoln-Douglas Debate: 3rd– Jack Franklin
