Book chatter with Kat; Anatomy of a Single Girl by Daria Snadowsky
March 25, 2014
Daria Snadowsky’s book Anatomy of a Single Girl comes out as a paperback in March, and I got the privilege of reading and reviewing it.
The book is the sequel to Anatomy of a Boyfriend and centers around Dominique’s (Dom) life after breakup and the summer in-between the sophomore year of college. From getting over her high school boyfriend to hooking up with a new guy and fighting with her best friend, Dom’s summer vacation was a roller coaster ride of emotions and new experiences.
Dom’s best friend at Tulane University in New Orleans, Calvin, would like to go out with Dom but she doesn’t think of him that way. They promise to stay in contact with each other over the break, but rarely do. Dominique spends the summer at her parent’s house in Fort Meyer’s, working as an intern in a medical practice and catching up with her best friend Amy.
While eating in the hospital cafeteria before leaving, “one of the hottest guys I’ve ever seen” sits near Dom. Their friendship takes off from there and they go on a date later.
A few more dates ensue and eventually misunderstanding and miscommunication between the two separates them for a while, leaving Dom down in the dumps.
Spoiler alert! Don’t worry, Dom and Guy do get back together after a few days and Dom is happy again.
It’s a rocky relationship; both have different views on important topics which sometimes clash, as well as conflicting plans with friends and family. Guy and Dom aren’t really in an on-again off-again relationship with any strings attached, but it’s pretty close to it.
I’ll let you read the book to find out what happens throughout the rest of the book. It’s a fairly short book but it takes you on a wild ride with a few more plot twists.
The book was well-written and had some funny moments, which I think readers will enjoy. Dominique is definitely an interesting, strong, independent and well-developed character, and her friends and family are good characters as well. While the book and the story line were well-written, I just felt like it moved a bit too fast for me. It is a fairly small and short book, but I feel like it could use a little bit more to it, at least plot-wise. It does take place over Dom’s summer vacation, but I feel like Snadowsky could have expanded a bit more on Dom’s internship with the hospital and other summer activities, and not just centering around her time with Guy.
All in all, the book was fun to read and I definitely would recommend it to several people.
