From Kentuckian to Okie
January 13, 2016
Harding Charter Prep has a history of constant staff changes in the science department. Many teachers only stick around for a year, but recently one left after the first semester. This meant that the administration had to hire a new Pre-AP Biology/AP Environmental Science teacher. This is Gabrielle Fowler, who seems to be up for the challenge.
Fowler has loved science for most of her life and credits this to the educators she has had.
“A good teacher goes beyond the subject. If you don’t have a good teacher, you won’t like the subject,” Fowler said.
She is originally from Kentucky and moved to Oklahoma specifically for her first teaching job. Due to the second semester coming fast, Fowler had to drop everything in Kentucky and make a quick move to Oklahoma City.
Her fiance, Don, is from Oklahoma, but he currently lives in Kentucky with their dog, Lucy. According to Fowler, “he’s excited to get back to his old stomping grounds.” So far, she feels at home. “My coworkers are always checking in on me,” she said gratefully.
She’s aware that HCP’s science teachers do not often stick around for a long time.
“The juniors need someone who makes them feel like they care,” said Fowler. “They really want to learn, and that’s my biggest surprise. They have such high goals.”
Outside of teaching, Fowler maintains an interest in nature. She enjoys hiking, swimming, and basketball.
The Marionette is very proud to welcome Gabrielle Fowler to the Harding staff!

I thought this article was interesting and well put. I like learning about the teachers lives before they came to HCP. This article was a fun one to read

A change in location plays a significant role towards a development of an individual. For example, that certain individual has to familiarize with the locality, culture and language. However, the change for Ms. Fowler may not me as significant as others, but it still can be impactful. Therefore, Ms. Fowler is accepted at Harding Charter Preparatory High School with open arms!
