With the Nov. 5 election rapidly approaching, it is crucial that all eligible people are registered to vote.
To vote, you must be at least 18 years old, but you can start the pre- registering process at 17 ½. You must live in the state of Oklahoma and cannot have a prior felony conviction.
You can register at any time, however, if you are planning on voting in the upcoming presidential election, you must be registered at least 25 days (about three and a half weeks) before the election.
Even if you aren’t old enough to vote on Nov. 5, it is still a great idea to pre-register.
“Registering and actually voting is one of the best ways for you to actually affect change and your community,” said Senior advisory teacher Emma Smreker. “You can’t complain about things if you don’t vote.”
On Thursday, senior class officers are partnering with Voters of Tomorrow by making visits to each Senior advisory. Here they will help walk through all the necessary steps to register.
Visit oklahoma.gov for any other questions or to start your application.
