The smell of burgers, the sound of laughter and talking filled the air as families, faculty and administration joined together for the annual Welcome Back BBQ on Aug. 22. The welcome back BBQ is always held the second week of school. It is a way for new or returning students and staff to relax, eat, socialize and have fun.
“It’s my favorite event to start off the year,” said Coach Pocock, who has been a teacher at HCP for 16 years.
The annual Welcome Back BBQ has been a tradition for five years. The gathering is felt more comfortable and informal to kick off the school year, allowing students, staff, and parents to connect outside the classroom. Pocock said the atmosphere was “positive, peaceful and welcoming.” His favorite part was having the chance to talk with everyone and have the options of many cookies. Pocock said he hopes students see this event as a chance for them to have fun with anyone and everyone.
“It was cool like always,” said sophomore Tegan Lee.
This BBQ gave Lee the opportunity to hang out with her friends and her friends’ families, and she said hanging out with her friends and family made her feel welcome. Her favorite part was playing volleyball. Lee saw this BBQ as a chance not just for her, but for everyone to forget about the stress and enjoy all the activities.
“This BBQ was eye opening to see that HCP isn’t just about education,” Lee said.
