Kyle Malzahn, one of the new additions to the Harding staff is now teaching the seniors AP Government. Malzahn, who has taught for 17 years, received a number of degrees that would allow him to earn a heavier yearly salary than a teacher. Though Malzahn has other potential career options, he chooses to teach because he thinks it’s an art form.
“I think that teaching comes naturally to me,” Malzahn said.
Malzahn’s teaching style, described by some of his students is relating how the subject relates to them personally.
“He’s cool. He kind of reminds me of Mr. Ruhl,” Amber Hall said.
“He’s amazing,” Tori Mitchell said.
“I haven’t sat in his class but he knows his subject. He’s easy to work with,” said AP U.S. History teacher Amanda Johnson.
Malzahn shares hobbies that most of our teachers share. Malzahn regattas with his daughter and enjoys games of lacrosse with his son. He has also traveled to nine countries, including Austria, England, Mexico, and Switzerland. Like Courtney Miller a member of Harding staff Malzahn has spent time serving in the military as a Cryptologic Intelligence Analysis.
Malzahn opinion of Harding so far is that the students are “great and focused.”
Malzahn received his BA in Graphic Design and Visual Communications which was paid for by the military. He received a scholarship and earned a BA in Educational Social Sciences, and also earned his MA in World History and a Certificate of Advanced International Affairs.
“He’s a quality educator,” principal Justin Hunt said.
