The can drive held by Harding’s National Honor’s Society raised $1,036 for the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank. Students donated canned meat, vegetables, and fruit. With senior Jordan Johnson’s $200 donation, the senior class was catapulted into first place, winning the food drive with what would be equivalent to 2,000 cans.
Juniors came in second with 520 cans, the sophomores took third with 287 cans and the freshmen took last place with a total of only 15 cans. Compared to last years’ recorder-breaking out come, this year Harding raised very close to only half of last year’s 6,000, according to school records.
After the can drive was over NHS also hosted their annual bingo night to add to the donations for the food bank.
William Cornelius, winner of the blackout round won a box of good quality chocolate that both NHS advisor, Kate Ferguson and leader of the event, Zach Massenat pooled together to buy.
“It was delicious” Cornelius said.
