Every year senior students are required to have a mentor. These mentors have the career the student is interested in.
“It gives them a taste of what career they want,” said senior counselor Linda Marshall. “We have a lot of kids who think a certain career is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but then after the mentorship they don’t have the same opinion.”
Gracie Kitzel is being mentored by Season Kissinger. After school Kitzel works alongside Kissinger in her fifth grade class.
“I want to be a teacher and I like to work with little kids,” Kitzel said.
Brittany Hammons, another senior who aspires to work with children works in her home day care with her mentor Glenda Mosby.
“It’s so much fun. I help watch the kids and play with them,” Hammons said.
Ally DeLisa mentors senior Wesley Tomlin who teaches him about non-profit business.
“I learn about presentation and the paperwork that goes behind it all,” Tomlin said.
Tomlin has no interest in running a non-profit organization; he intends to be a psychiatrist.
“It’s really hard to find a doctor mentor,” Tomlin said.
Julius Stanfield is being mentored by Kevin Marble, an I.T. Director. Although Stanfield does not want to pursue a career in the field, he is finding his time with Marble to be valuable.
“I learn a lot of new things,” Stanfield said. He would like to be computer programmer.
Carmen Villalobos, who wants to be a pediatrician, shadows Jessica Wright and helps her with patients at OU Medical Hospital.
“I watch her test patients, like for strep throat,” Villalobos said.
The mentor program has proven to go over well with most students.
“It gives us a preview of what different careers are like,” Tomlin said.

Everyone should go to our senior showcase to see the cool jobs. Plus juniors, if you write down contact information from these companies/businesses they may be interested to mentor you now that they know what Harding Capstone is all about!
