Interview with Adam Stroud:
Where were you born?
I was born in Ada, Oklahoma, in 1984.
Which colleges have you attended, and where?
I have graduated from Oklahoma State University, I finished there with my Bachelor’s degree, secondary education for Science, finished my Master’s there recently, with curriculum design and I’m attending OU right now, working on my PhD.
Where else have you taught besides Harding Charter Prep?
I have taught at a couple of different schools, the biggest ones that I taught at for the longest period of time were Yantai International School in China, and Amazon Valley Academy in Brazil.
What benefitted you from teaching in those places?
I really enjoyed teaching in those places and I got a lot of benefits from it. I would say the major benefits were seeing that other cultures were very important, and that there’s lots to learn, and that people all around the world have the same interests in the same things, so I definitely enjoyed that.
What is the best part of the Harding environment so far?
So for me, the best part of the Harding environment would by far be the community, that’s here, the way that teachers work together, and the way that students work together, and that they work to be their best, and to me that’s really amazing. Its unlike anything that I have seen at other schools that I have been at.
Do you have any other comments?
What other comments do I have about the school… I really just enjoy, like I said, the energy from everybody that is here, I enjoy the building, I just enjoy being out in the halls and watching all the interactions and students be themselves. I think that’s a great quality that Harding has.
Which subject/s do you teach?
I teach only Pre-AP Biology for Juniors.
There is a teacher named Mrs. Stroud, are you related, and if so, how?
Yes, Mrs. Stroud and I are related, she is in fact married to my brother. They have been married for I think about four years now. She is my sister in law.
What is your goal of teaching your students this year?
My goal in teaching is always to help people be able to realize their potential, whether it is in biology, in my classroom, or in whatever subject they feel is most important to them. I want them to be able to find their talents, and to be able to realize their fullest potential.
What are the most interesting facts about yourself?
Well, I’m a ginger, so I’m proud of my red hair, I like that. Other than that, I love to be in the outdoors. That’s my favorite place to be, so I think those make up who I am; for the most part.
What is the best thing to teach?
Science, without a doubt. Science has always been the best subject for me, that’s my favorite. If I were to choose another one, it would be tough. I always liked art, I wish I would have studied art more. But, for me, science is the best.
