Late Start Monday is a new procedure being implemented for this school year, teachers are hoping to provide enrichment and improve students’ test scores. Instead of going in at 8 a.m., students will be going in at 9 a.m. Enrichment and IXL starts at 8 a.m. and will be held until 8:45 a.m. IXL intervention will starts on Sept 11.
Intervention will be determined by a student test score on the NWEA MAP test, which was administered at the end of January. Students requiring intervention will come to school Monday mornings for extra practice using IXL, a program that allows for students to work at their own pace on targeted areas of need. Students will also work on IXL during advisory on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
At the same time as intervention, Eagles Exploration, an enrichment program will also take place. These enrichment programs are a chance for students to learn a new skill or to do something fun before school. Enrichment is offered to students who get to school before 9 a.m., but is open to all students that want to join a program on a first-come, first-served basis. The enrichment programs will change every session on a monthly basis.
“I’m pretty excited to work with kids I never get to work with,” said Fine Arts Department Head Kelli Taylor.
The HCP Fine and Performing Arts Department enrichment programs are held while the core subject teachers are in Professional Learning Community meetings. The PLC model is where teachers who teach the same courses come together and collaborate on lesson plans. They work to make sure the students are where they need to be while aligning their curriculum to state and AP standards.
