Homecoming is a school tradition that takes place every year where students can come together and show support for their school.
This year, Harding showed its school spirit by dominating the Homecoming basketball games. We also started a new tradition this year by holding our first homecoming dance.
The homecoming game was on Feb. 2, where both varsity teams played.
The Lady Eagles won 50 to 42. Around the fourth quarter, it started to become a close game.
“I’m proud of not giving up at the end when it became a close game. Like a captain should, I helped my teammates keep their composure,” said team captain Moriah Gaston.
The boys’ team won 83 to 50.
“I am satisfied with our performance. We won by a big margin and had a good amount of people out there to support us,” said sophomore varsity player Johan Marin.
After the girls’ game, the ceremony took place to crown the homecoming court. All nominees were students involved in a sport or band. These students showed dedication, leadership and excellence throughout the school year.
Rozlyn Gregg and Diego Ibanez were crowned freshman prince and princess. Adriana Hernandez and D.J. Hillmon were crowned sophomore prince and princess. Chai Solomon and Keven Espinosa were crowned junior prince and princess.
Last but certainly not least, Nayana Twins and Andrew Onema were crowned 2024’s homecoming king and queen!
Twins plays volleyball, is in the Black Student Union, is a freshman navigator and is a manager for the boys’ basketball team.
“I’m so happy and loved hearing all the congratulations,” Twins said.
The homecoming dance was on Feb.3, held in the gymnasium at our school.
We had food and drink tables, a photo booth, and even a DJ! It was a fun way to get people together in support of the school and to have fun!
Becca Jolly, a junior who helped plan this year’s homecoming dance says, “I would say that putting it together last minute for sure had its ups and downs but in the end, I think it was great, the turnout was great and hopefully we can do it again next year!”
