School has been in session for almost a month, which means it’s time to find new ways to get involved. If you are finding yourself with free time, consider joining one of HCP’s new or returning clubs!
Navigators
Navigators is a program led by seniors that focuses on helping acclimate freshman into their first year of high school. The president is Meha Joseph and the sponsor Keith Campbell.
Baking Club
If you are interested in learning how to bake, stop by the first baking club meeting this Thursday. The president is Amaya Hunt, and the sponsor is Kiara Burdine. The meeting will be held in Burdine’s room.
Latin Students Association
LSA is a great way to celebrate your culture while also making friends. The president is Miranda Rodriguez, and the sponsor is Kevin Suarez.
The club meets every Tuesday, location varying.
Art Club
If you’re interested in the world of art, stop by the art club! The president is Sarah Tirrel and the sponsor is Chris Fredrick.
The club meets three times a month in Fred’s room.
Women in Stem
Women in Stem Club’s goal is to create a safe space for girls who want to pursue a career in the STEM field. The president is Mae Caudle, and the sponsor is Kevin Suarez.
The club meets once a month, in Suarez’s classroom.
Crochet Club
Interested in learning to crochet? If so, then this club is perfect for you! The president of crochet club is Cameron Koelsch, and the sponsor is Julianne Varghese.
The club meets every Tuesday from 3:10-4, in Varghese’s room.
Book Club
This year, HCP is adding a book club, which focuses on reading banned books. The Co-Presidents are Emily James and Ajax Buxton. The sponsor is Julianne Varghese.
The club meets the first and last Tuesday of every month. In Varghese’s room.
Chess
The chess club meets every Friday in the small gym. The sponsor is Tom Kindinger.
As of right now, the club is hosting an OKC tournament on Nov.2.
Board Game Club
If you’re a board game lover, stop by the Board Game Club. The president is Aiden Pemberton, and the sponsor is Angela Collymore.
The club meets every Thursday in Collymore’s room.
Ping Pong
If you’re looking for an easy and fun club to participate in, stop by the Ping Pong club. The president is James Nwamarah and the sponsor is Tom Kindinger.
The club meets every Friday at 3pm in the small gym.
Native American Student Association
NASA’s goal is to spread awareness on Native American culture. The president is Elora Moore, and the sponsor is Rodney Nichols.
The club meets on Tuesdays twice a month, in Nichols’ room.
Student Council
Student council focuses on raising school spirit and uniting students, while also raising money for the school and community. The president is Noel Mercer, and the sponsor is Travis Rhodes.
The club meets every Wednesday in Rhode’s room.
Speech and Debate
Speach and Debate is a great way to enhance public speaking skills. The captains are Mae Caudle and Candela Principi. The sponsor is Sierra Paul.
To join the team, you need to be put into the Speech and Debate class or one of the prerequisite classes. From there, students can make private appointments to practice their pieces.
Queer- Straight Alliance
QSA creates a safe space for people who identify as LGBTQ+ and any other allies. The sponsor is Emma Smreker, and the President is Laurie Muckleroy.
The club meets every Thursday in Smreker’s room.
Black Student Union
BSU’s goal is to spread awareness about African American social matters in our school. The president is Natalie Thompson, and the sponsors are Dr. Jennifer Gillis and Kiara Burdine.
The club meets every Friday in Gillis’ room.
