The annual blood drive is coming back! STUCO is partnering with the Blood Institute to host a blood drive to donate to hospitals in need. The blood drive will happen all school day in the big gym on Monday, Sept. 30.
Students under 18 will need their parent’s signature and must weigh at least 125 pounds to participate. If students are 18 then they’ll need to be at least 110 pounds.
According to the Our Blood Institute “donating blood will provide health and healing for local patients in need.” Hospitals need more than 1,200 donations per day to keep up with demand. Patients who have suffered blood loss through trauma or who need infusions due to blood disorders or surgical complications need these life-saving blood donations.
Before students donate blood, they must eat a good dinner the night before and breakfast the day of, and they also need a good night’s sleep.
Students will be mostly taken out of elective classes by the STUCO senate. Once students are taken out of class, they need to take their ID and their phones with them. Before getting blood drawn students will be checked if eligible to donate blood. Then, if students are told they are good to start, students will go and lie down on a table, and they will start drawing blood. If seniors donate blood six times, they will receive a cord at graduation.
Students may get a permission form from STUCO sponsor Travis Rhodes or any STUCO member.
