Toronzo McInnis is one of the new teachers here at Harding Charter Prep. Mr. McInnis teaches Pre-AP Algebra I and Math Intervention.
McInnis did not grow up in Oklahoma. He was born and raised in Mississippi for the first 19 years of his life.
He said that something that made him want to become a teacher was a “field experience.”
“I did a field placement with this school, and I was placed in West Tulsa with a bunch of elementary kids, and I was just tutoring them,” McInnis said. He described it as a “weird experience.” He wanted to help more kids, and it was from that moment on that he wanted to become a teacher.
McInnis first taught at Northwest Classen and later on moved to OSU-OKC. He then moved here in 2025.
One of the reasons that McInnis chose to teach here was because of the way the students acted.
He said that he met a student at Northwest Classen that was from Independence Middle School, and he described her as “so joyful, so smart, so funny.”
He also met another student that graduated last year, during his time at OSU-OKC that he described in a very similar way, and this is what made him want to become a teacher here.
McInnis has a variety of hobbies that he likes to do.
“I love the outside,” he said. “I like to take walks.” He also said he loves reading, writing and watching TV.
Recently, he has been watching the NBA and WNBA.
“I will catch a game and keep track of it,” he said.
McInnis also enjoys listening to many different artists.
“I love Stevie Wonder and Mariah Carey,” he said. But his go-to artist is Beyonce. Some of his favorite rappers are XXXTENTACION and Juice WRLD.
“I like a little bit of everything, but I definitely have my favorites.”
McInnis said he is thrilled to be teaching here at Harding Charter Prep and is eager to help more students.
