Eagles off to strong start
September 3, 2015
The Marionette would like to recognize some of the fantastic things happening at HCP so far this year.
Thanks to some very generous people and the hard work by Coach Wade Wallace, the gym has been outfitted with new bleachers. Instead of the splintered old wooden bleachers that cell phones and water bottles literally fell victim to over the past many years that had to be manually pulled out, the gym now sports state-of-the-art that open and close at the touch of a button. Well done, Coach Wallace!
Congratulations to senior Luis Palomino for being named a National Hispanic Scholar! Only 2.5% of all Hispanic PSAT testers are crowned with this prestigious title. Way to represent the school, Luis!
The freshman volleyball team remains undefeated so far. As far as the Marionette can remember, this is a first for this far into the season. Well done, ladies! The first home game is tonight at 4pm against Noble. Come and cheer the team from the new bleachers!
HCP’s ACT composite score increased again this last year from 23.6 to 23.7. This puts the school well above the state average composite of 20.7 and even above some high-performing suburban schools. Keep up the great work, Eagles!
The OKC YWCA opened its doors to the new Thelma J. Gaylord wing, a huge project four years in the making, on September 2. Four years ago, HCP’s Eagle Week event raised about $10,000 for the project, earning Dr. Miller, band director Kelli Taylor and some band students a ticket to the ribbon-cutting. The new wing boasts 27,000 square feet that includes a playground, an on-site medical clinic, and safe hotel-like rooms for families escaping domestic violence. Way to go, Eagles, and way to go YWCA!
