“This Consequence,” is Killswitch Engage’s newest album and has already proved to be one of their greatest. Killswitch is my favorite metal band,
so I was absolutely geeked when I heard they released a new album and I left it on repeat for a week straight.
I think I have lost some hearing from listening to this album too much.
“Abandon Us” kicks off the album with some deep lyrics about our political climate and our world leaders, and how they have betrayed the people.
However, I enjoy this song because of the fast beat, and it sounds good. The song has a rhythm I have not heard before and just makes me want headbang whenever I hear it.
“Abandon us, you turned your backs on all of us.”
The song “Forever Aligned” is about how their lover found them when they were in a dark place, which made them fall in love. Despite the subject matter, it’s a very aggressive song, but that makes the soothing chorus hit so much harder. It’s a fun song with a chorus I can sing along to, which is why it’s my favorite song on the album.
“It’s you I find forever in my mind.”
I have “I Believe” at a close second place for my favorite. The entire song is just a vibe that’s easy to sing along to. All you have to do is scream “I Believe,” and you’ve pretty got the whole song memorized. The best part is definitely the bridge. It’s like they’re breaking the fourth wall and asking us if we have hope.
“I believe there is hope for better days.”
The song “Broken Glass” is a super fun song to listen to. Lyrically, it’s nothing too special, but what makes it exceptional is the beat. It is a super deep bass supported by a double pedal drum. I love it.
“You speak in shards of broken glass.”
The final song, “Requiem,” is a very fitting end to the end of the album.
Within the song, they repeat “This is not our Requiem.”
Despite how fast-paced it is, it feels somber, and fits the vibe of this being the last song on the album. This is one of the better songs Killswitch has made, but I avoid listening to it, because, despite what they say, it feels like a requiem. It feels disheartening to listen to it.
“This Consequence” is not the best album Killswitch has ever, but it is pretty good. It’s a departure from everything else they have made, with more of a focus being placed on unique beats, rather than stellar lyrics. Overall, I give it a 7/10, would blow my eardrums out again.
