NCAA tournament truly brings madness to march.
In this year’s tourney the top four seeds were Kansas, Louisville, Indiana and Gonzaga.
Upsets within the second round included: Oregon (12) over Oklahoma State (5) 68-55; Florida Gulf Coast University (15) over Georgetown (2) 78-68; Minnesota (11) over UCLA (6) 83-63; California (12) over UNLV (5) 64-61; Harvard (14) over New Mexico (3); 68-62; and La Salle (14) over Kansas State (4) 63-61.
There were several upsets within the third round including: Oregon (12) over Saint Louis (4) 74-57; Florida Gulf Coast University (15) over San Diego State (7) 81-71; and La Salle (13) over Mississippi (12) 76-74.
The first of the four to fall this year was Gonzaga (1) to Wichita State (9) 76-70, on March 24 in the Third Round
Upsets in the Sweet Sixteen were, Michigan (4) over Kansas (1) 87-85, and Wichita State (9) over Ohio State (2) 70-66.
There were three double-digit seeds in the Sweet Sixteen, Oregon (12) La Salle (14) and Florida Gulf State (15). This is the first time that two teams seeded 13 or under have gotten to the Sweet Sixteen in the history of the NCAA tournament.
In the Elite Eight, Michigan (4) upset Florida (3), 79-59, and Wichita State (9) beat Ohio State (2) to make it to the Final Four.
The Final Four were Louisville (1), Wichita State (9), Syracuse (4) and Michigan (4). Louisville came out on top in its game with Wichita State, 72-68. Michigan won its game against Syracuse, 61-56.
The National Championship game was between Louisville (1) and Michigan (4). Louisville won 82-76.
This year’s tournament was fraught with upsets from the start and they continued throughout the whole tournament. However, Louisville stayed on top the whole time, proving their status as the No. 1 team in the NCAA.
