The HCP basketball team looks like they have a promising season ahead of them.
Despite losing several great senior players last year, the boy’s team has played hard and is undefeated after four games. The girls are 3-1 for the season so far.
“We are doing better this year because the seniors last year were lazy and these kids want to play and will give everything they have to win,” said junior Carus Newman. “I think that we could get to state.”
The girl’s team lost by three but did a fantastic job bouncing back on Saturday by winning.
“There have been a lot of improvements this year,” said senior Cydney Washington. “I think we play as a team better and our attitudes are much better.”
The girls also lost several seniors last year.
“We are learning how each other play which is good because last year we only relied on Chelsi Black and Aliyah Barry,” Washington said.
The team has made some internal changes as well.
“I see more maturity this year as opposed to last year,” said athletic director Mylo Miller. “I noticed there has been better leadership as well.”
The eagles are hoping for a successful season, but the real test will be in January and February when the teams have more competition, Miller said.
