The basketball team had an exciting winter break. Both teams competed in the Crooked Oak Tournament the day after Christmas. The girl’s team placed 4th overall in the tournament, while the boys took 2nd place.
Senior Saibra Journey had mixed feelings about how the girls played at the tournament.
“I think that we played well for a team that did not do a whole lot over the break physically, but it was sloppy and we were a little intimidated and started questioning our performance,” Journey said. Journey is proud of the team but said she knows that there are things to be improved upon.
The girl’s team played Seeworth, Centennial and Douglas.
“As a team, I feel like we need to improve on communication, comprehending plays, technique and listening to coach,” Journey said.
Junior Deion Harrison is proud of the way that the boy’s team played in the tournament.
“I think that we played great,” Harrison said. “We had fun and enjoyed ourselves while playing against some good competition.”
The boy’s team played Harding Fine Arts, Capitol Hill and Centennial.
Both teams have made some great improvements this year.
“Both teams are doing really well,” said Athletic Director Mylo Miller. “Both are very competitive and are playing against some tough competition.”
“I think that we are communicating well; even though we make mistakes we still accept each other,” Harrison said.
The next tournament that both teams will be playing at will be the Little Axe Tournament on January 23-25, 2014.
