Basketball begins successful season

Both the girls and boys basketball teams have started their season undefeated and are going strong.
Athletic director Mylo Miller is very excited with how both teams have played so far.
“Both the guys and girls are 6-0, so they are doing really well,” Miller said.
Senior Maegan Smith is excited with how the girl’s team has performed so far this season.
“I think that we are playing well together and playing as a team and it has contributed to a lot of our wins,” Smith said. “This year we connect better than previous years and we communicate more effectively.”
The girls’ first game was against ASTEC Charter with a win of 42-32. The next win with a score of 42-33 was against the OKC Knights. The girls then played against Destiny Christian and pulled ahead with 51-33. The next game was against Nathan Hale and the girls performed well with a score of 54-50. Next, the teams played Santa Fe South and won with 36-18. The next game was against Crooked Oak and the girls continued their winning streak with a score of 45-26.
Miller is also pleased with how the girls have performed.
“The girls have really surprised me,” Miller said. “They have surprised everyone and surpassed their expectations.”
Senior Deion Harrison is proud of how the boy’s team has performed this season.
“We have been playing pretty well and we are on the right track, but there is still room for improvement,” Harrison said.
The boys’ first game was against ASTEC Charter where they won 111-42. The next game was against OKC Knights where they won 84-68. The boys continued to do well against Destiny Christian, winning 91-71. The team played at Nathan Hale and inched ahead winning 69-65. The team continued their winning streak with success against Santa Fe South with 85-52. Most recently the team played at home with another win against Crooked Oak with 103-83.
Miller is also pleased with how the boys have performed.
“The guys have gotten better and have matured, and I think that they will continue to get better with time,” he said.
Harrison is optimistic for the rest of the season.
“This season is more promising due to the increase in talent,” Harrison said. “We can improve our chemistry [on the court] and then once we do, we will be an even better team.”
