Basketball successful on Senior Night
February 12, 2015
The basketball teams had exciting games against Wewoka for Senior Night.
The girls had a great and intense game against Wewoka with a score of 41-38. Senior Tyra Owens was happy with how the girls played throughout the game.
“I think that we played pretty good,” Owens said. “Our defense was better than usual and more people played better offense which helped.”
Basketball team manager Mackenzie Sloan was also pleased with how the girls played.
“I think that they played well and they played well as a team because a lot of the time they play just to play and hog the ball.”
During the last quarter, the game became more intense with a close score, but the Eagles wound up on top.
“Since we had a lead through the game we did not play a hard defense and that let them score on us,” Owens said. “It was senior night so all of the seniors wanted to win and that’s when we turned the game back around.”
Despite their win, Owens noticed improvements that the girls can make in the last few games of the season.
“Right now we need to play more aggressive,” Owens said. “We play soft and not as aggressive as we need to, and that is why we lose.”
The boys also had a great game against Wewoka with a score of 87-62.
Senior Kyle Davis was pleased with how the boys performed on Senior Night.
“I think that we played together as a team, because some nights we play as individuals but we finally came together,” Davis said.
The boys kept the lead against Wewoka throughout the entire game, but Davis thinks that the boys can improve to help increase the lead in future games.
“I think that we can improve on our defense as a whole,” Davis said. “We allow teams to score more than they should and we can stop that with a better defense.”
Sloan also agrees with Davis that the team can improve further.
“Both the girls and boys can improve on playing as a team and not as individuals,” she said.
The next basketball game is February 13 against Community Christian.
