Basketball losing streak ends
Tough games against Seeworth highlight strengths and weaknesses of both teams

After persevering against Seeworth Academy for a win last Thursday, both basketball teams ended their losing streaks.
The girls won their game with a score of 65-48 and the boys went into overtime tied at 62-62, but finished with a score of 69-62.
Girls captain Payton Langley wasn’t happy about her performance but she was pleased about how the others have played.
“I wasn’t hitting hardly any shots and it was really upsetting to me but overall the team’s performance was a lot better than normal. We worked together and everyone got on the board instead of just one person scoring,” Langley said.
As for the boys, captain Brannon Dean noted a lack of flow in the first couple of quarters.
“Our performance was stagnant for the first two quarters then after half time. We talked about it and then we were able to come out with the win,” Dean said.
The goals of both teams for the future are to get everyone involved and step onto the court with ambition.
“Coach Wallace always says, ‘Build the foundation from the ground up.’ That’s what he likes to say before every game,” said senior Chris Phillips. “So that’s what we try to do.”
Langley wants to the team to always come together.
“We need to work as a team to win. That’s the key. We need to make sure everyone gets on the board,” Langley said.
Dean believes that everyone has a role for the team and if those roles are filled, success can be executed.
“Everyone comes off the bench and they come in and play their roles. Like when Evan [Gutel] comes off the bench, he comes in and gets good rebounds and Chris [Phillips} comes off and he’s good for shot blocking and having someone big in the middle,” Dean said.
The boys will compete in the John Noble tournament this weekend and both teams will meet Santa Fe South next Tuesday in an away game.
