New year, new players, new volleyball season, same goal.
The Eagles have returned to the court to kick off their fall 2025 season.
The Eagles began their campaign with a loss to the Casady Cyclones on Aug. 12, losing all three sets (10-25, 12-25, 15-25).
However, they bounced back in their following game against the Santa Fe South Saints Thursday night, clean sweeping all three sets (25-14, 25-10, 25-16).
This past Saturday, the Eagles captured 1st place in the Silver Bracket of the Midwest City Tournament after defeating the Lawton Wolverines twice and the Northwest Classen Knights, while picking up some tough defeats to the Putnam City West Patriots and the eventual champions of the Gold Bracket, Putnam City North Panthers.
Junior Wynter Magrum was selected for the All-Tournament Team for the tournament.
Head Coach Kori Willams is at the head of the pack, looking to lead this group to a winning record for this promising season. After losing seven seniors this summer, Williams has put this team together to give them the best chance of winning.
“My favorite thing about my coach is her attitude, it is always positive,” said senior Nyla Jones.
Junior Rozlyn Gregg said that Coach Williams “makes us players better.”
“She has a contagious sense of humor, and I feel like she understands us very well,” Gregg said.
The Eagles look to improve from their previous 11-14 record last season as they begin the season 4-3 heading into their matchup with the Harding Fine Arts Lady Firehawks on August 19, at home.
“I’m looking forward to winning many games for my last year at Harding,” Jones said.
Gregg said her expectation this season is “to continue growing as a player.”
The Lady Eagles have two more tournaments scheduled this season, Bethany Tournament on Sept. 13 and the GMAC (Greater Metro Athletic Conference) Tournament on Oct. 3-4. Their playoff journey will begin with Regionals on Oct. 9.
Come out and support the Lady Eagles during this season with JV games beginning at 5 p.m. and Varsity at 6 p.m.
