A group of seniors and some of the students from the sophomore and junior AVID classes visited the University of Oklahoma last Tuesday. Fifty students visited the campus with groups of students from Harding Fine Arts, Carl Albert, Mount St. Mary, Midwest City and Western Heights.
The students were split into groups and attended sessions to learn about engineering, business, fine arts, and student life.
“The visit was to allow some of the students to get the experience and exposure of being on a college campus,” said counselor Linda Marshall.
A majority of the HCP students attended the engineering session. It included a tour around the engineering department including the “nap room.”
A group of 11 seniors also attended the University of Central Oklahoma’s Central Close Up, which was organized by the university last Wednesday.
There were two sessions at UCO visit, at the first session the students split up and attended informational meetings on education, business, liberal arts, and student life “Becoming a Bronco.” The second session included informational meetings on math, forensic science, engineering and another student life “Becoming a Bronco” session.
“It was fun. They loved us, they loved Harding,” said senior Aliyah Barry.
These are large visits to universities where students go to sessions in general areas of study. When the students schedule the visits they get one-on-one individualized attention where they can visit classes that they would take in that area of their major.
