If you love juicy, American burgers, Kaiser’s is your place to go. The restaurant brings you in a warm and comfortable atmosphere that makes you feel as if you were home.

According to NewsOK, Kaiser’s was started by a man named Anthony J. (AJ) Kaiser who bought a confectionery and  ice cream parlor, located at NW 7th and Robinson. After nine years, the location was moved to 1039 N. Walker Ave and has been standing there ever since. Here, they started the “Kaiser’s Tradition” of selling great tasting ice cream that is made on-site.

In 1977, the parlor was bought by another ice cream connoisseur who kept it open until 1990. For four years, the restaurant was not active until it was opened as the Grateful Bean in 1994. It then changed its name to Kaiser’s American Bistro and closed in 2013.

In 1978, the restaurant was put on the National Register for Historic Places.

Reopening last year in November, Kaiser’s made a comeback with a new menu and a new name (Kaiser’s Diner & Ice Cream Parlor) that offered a variety of ice cream flavors along with appetizers, steaks, seafood, pasta, soups and salads and of course, burgers.

With the history of the restaurant and the delicious food that came along with it, the Marionette cannot express enough love for  Kaiser’s Diner & Ice Cream Parlor.

Camilla Gonzalez ordered the patty melt, which she describes as surprisingly delicious. Gonzalez usually orders patty melts from Freddy’s Frozen Custard often and that has always been her standard of a good patty melt. Kaiser’s patty melt didn’t live up to her expectations set by Freddy’s Frozen Custards but it came really close. Gonzalez admitted to not expecting the patty melt to be as good as Freddy’s but it was actually pretty good.

Kaitlyn Smith ordered the chipotle chicken sandwich, which was a grilled chicken breast topped with provolone, lettuce, and avocado creme fraise on toasted focaccia bread along with kettle chips as a side and a chocolate shake for the drink. From the sound of it, the chipotle chicken sandwich seems like it would taste very good but that is not the case, according to Smith.

“The chicken sandwich was bland. There was no taste and I couldn’t even taste the avocado and it was a little too spicy for me,” said Smith. “As for the shake, it had a weird taste in a good way and I could definitely taste the milk.”

Both Stephanie Emerson and I ordered the house blend burger. As for a side, Emerson ordered regular fries while I ordered sweet potato fries. We both had the same view that the burger did not look too appealing. For one, it looked like it was drenched with grease and the bun was very flat. When it went came out, the plate was greasy as well. However, the burger did taste good once you got over the taste of the grease.

“It reminded me of a burger you would get at a barbecue,” Emerson said.

Emerson also ordered a chocolate milkshake just like Smith, which she recalled as being “expensive but definitely worth it”.

I really liked how the toppings for the burger came on the side so you could add whatever you wanted to it instead of ordering it without pickles and tomatoes. My burger did not have much of a taste so I added mustard. I really enjoyed the sweet potato fries. They weren’t too sweet or too bland. With other restaurants, they often struggle to find the perfect balance but at Kaiser’s, they had it down for sure.

Gabriel di Gregorio ordered the Inferno Burger, which included the house burger meat topped with pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, chipotle chili mix and chipotle mayo.

“It wasn’t the best burger I’ve ever had,” said di Gregorio. “But it was amazing.”

Along with that, he ordered mac and cheese for a side and a vanilla bean shake to drink.

“It tasted like someone combined 1/3 of a cup of water, 1/2 a cup of milk and table pepper then decided to pour it over cooked shells,” said di Gregorio.

As for the vanilla bean shake, di Gregorio enjoyed it just like Emerson and Smith.

He recalled it as being not too thick but not too prone to melting.

At the end of the meal, Gonzalez and I both ordered ice cream. She ordered a molten lava sundae, which was definitely worth the price. The inside of the glass bowl was coated with chocolate and had brownie at the bottom. Gonzalez really enjoyed the sundae, which was vanilla ice cream drizzled in fudge and topped with whipped cream and a cherry,

I thought it was too big for her to finish so we made a bet that if she didn’t finish, she’d give me two dollars but if she did, I would give her two dollars. Unfortunately for me, she won.

“It was very delicious and that made it easier for me to finish it and get two dollars from Isis,” Gonzalez said.

It was a little pricey but you definitely get enough ice cream to account for it.

I kept it casual and ordered a cup of strawberry ice cream. For the most part, I stick to ordering ice cream from Braum’s and their strawberry ice cream, which has always been my favorite but I actually really enjoyed Kaiser’s as well. It was really smooth and I could definitely tell it was homemade. I would definitely go back and order it again.
