Jessica Myers, Bobby Anaya and Hollie Harris received awards for their work on the 2014 Aquila yearbook at the Fall Media Monday event hosted by the Oklahoma Scholastic Media.

The  Aquila Yearbook staff was recognized this year by the Oklahoma Scholastic Media at the annual Fall Media Monday workshop and state contest. The 2013-2014 Yearbook staff member’s Hollie Harris, Bobby Anaya and Jessica Myers all received awards for their work on last year’s book. Myers received an honorable mention for Headline Writing and 2nd place for Student Life Spread. She was surprised at receiving the award and she said it gives her more confidence knowing that her hard work is being recognized. Her hopes for this year’s yearbook is for a better response from the students, and she hopes that the students can relate to it more. Harris received honorable mentions for Caption Writing and Academic Story and 2nd place for Alternative Copy. She was also surprised at receiving the award  and said it felt nice to be acknowledged. “Overall I felt like it was kind of difficult and confusing. I think it’s a good book and I mean everything has its flaws,” Harris said. Anaya received honorable mentions for the Sports Story and Academic Photo, and also 2nd place Alternative Copy. “I was pretty proud of myself, but I felt I could have done better except there was bad leadership last year, but what that tells me is I just want to be a better leader to the underclassmen this year so next year they can do better than I did,” Anaya said. His hopes are that the he can set an example for the underclassmen so they can succeed on the staff. Adviser Kelli Taylor said she is proud of the students for their hard work last year, and looks forward to what they do this year. “These are incredibly creative young people,” Taylor said. “Hopefully the workshop helped them put their thoughts together to make an even better book than last year.”
