Looking forward to the upcoming weekend of excitement, fun and cavities? Of course you are. But you still have to endure the long day of school before you get to go home and get some rest for the upcoming night. If only you had something else to look forward to… Wait, you do. HCP is hosting the “60 Second Plays,” this Friday, October 30.

You may ask, “What are these’60 Second Plays’ you speak of?” Not many students are aware of what to expect from this “mysterious” play.

“It’s full of surprises, you may cry at a dramatic scene, you may laugh so hard that you’ll pee your pants, so go to the bathroom before the play starts,” said drama teacher Michael Ferguson.

The play consists of several scenes, humorous and dramatic. After one act, lasting 60 seconds, another act follows it. The scenery will change in between depending on the new story line. The overall theme is based on the short videos that are seen on Vine and YouTube in order to appeal more to the attention spans of the today generation.

There are a total of 14 actors who will mix and match between the different scenes, there may be the same actors in different scenes, but they form a new character each time. The goal for the actors is to create a new character within each scene in just one minute. The main focus is to portray the everyday issues that students experience. This includes problems with acceptance, diversity, family issues, friendships, addiction, and dealing with loss.

Since some scenes aren’t approved to show during school hours, due to their “extra extremity,” as Ferguson described it, there will be an extra show at 7pm. Twenty minutes before the play there will be a dance party, which will be “something you haven’t seen at any live theater show before,” Ferguson said.
