Music students rock district contest, qualify for state

The+HCP+Concert+Band+puts+up+number+ones+for+everyone+to+see+after+earning+a+Superior+rating+at+the+OSSAA+District+Large+Group+contest+on+March+6.+With+their+rating%2C+they+qualified+for+the+state+contest+for+the+second+time+in+school+history.

The HCP Concert Band puts up number ones for everyone to see after earning a Superior rating at the OSSAA District Large Group contest on March 6. With their rating, they qualified for the state contest for the second time in school history.

The choir, band and orchestra all participated in a number of OSSAA contest in late February and early March. Choir started off the season with their district contest on Feb. 28, followed by all three groups attending district solo and ensemble contest on March 2, and band playing at the district large group contest on March 6.

Kelli Taylor, Adviser
Kelli Taylor has been the Marionette adviser for 10 years. In addition to managing the news team, she also advises the yearbook staff, teaches beginning journalism, and directs the band and orchestra at Harding Charter Prep. Taylor has both her bachelor's and master's in music from the University of Central Oklahoma. She is a former American Society of Newspaper Editors Summer Institute participants, and has received grant money from both the Oklahoma Scholastic Media and the Ethics in Excellence in Journalism Foundation. Most recently, Taylor received a grant totaling $7,500 for new video and camera equipment, and software for the online news team.
