Album of the Summer

Camila Gonzalez

Camila

Album: Vessel by Twenty One Pilots

Genre: ?

Favorite Tracks: Ode to Sleep, Fake You Out, Holding on to You, Migraine, Guns for Hands

Why: This is my favorite album of all time. I can’t think of any other artists that sound like this. A lot of the songs sound really happy but the lyrics are more emotional and serious. I really like this contrast because it shows that a song can have well-written, thought provoking lyrics while still sounding catchy and fun. I honestly wanted to write the whole track list in the “Favorite Tracks” section. This album is perfect and I’d recommend it to anyone.

Callie

Album: Sail Out by Jhene Aiko

Genre: PBR&B

Favorite Tracks: Bed Peace, Comfort Inn Ending

Why: Her voice is pure beauty. It makes me swoon honestly. The album is genuine with good lyrics. It’s short and sweet.

Vanessa

Album: Trilogy by the Weeknd

Genre: PBR&B

Favorite Tracks: Wicked Games, House of Balloons/Glass Table Girls, What You Need

Why: I like the slow music, it was sensual and soft. It’s pleasing to listen to and I never get bored.

Elizabeth:

Album: Absolution by Muse

Genre: Alternative rock

Favorite Tracks: Apocalypse Please, Sing for Absolution, Time is Running Out

Why: I really enjoy Muse as a group and since this is an earlier album, I really like it. The songs include a massive amount of musical talent and quality, and the lyrics are not your usual “lovey dovey.”

Stephanie

Album: Night Visions by Imagine Dragons

Genre: Alternative/electronic rock

Favorite Tracks: It’s Time, Radioactive, On Top of the World

Why: I like the speed of the songs. They are also catchy. They remind me of road trips because that is the first time I discovered them.

Hannah

Album: Ultraviolence by Lana Del Rey

Genre: Desert rock, dream pop, psychedelic rock

Favorite Tracks: Old Money, Brooklyn Baby, Shades of Cool, Ultraviolence

Why: I really like this album because I really like Lana’s voice. She has a very old time voice and I like that this album really captures that.

Isis

Album: 3-D by I See Stars

Genre: Electronicore/Post-hardcore/EHM

Favorite Tracks: What This Means to Me, 3D, Save the Cheerleader Save the World, I am Jack’s Smirking Revenge

Why: This is their second album and they have shown a lot of improvement. In their first EP, the lead singer was only 13 and it sounded like an amateur album but by the second album two years later, they sound amazing and match up with bands that have been in business for years. The lyrics are focused on self-expression and average struggles to gain success. Along with the electronic elements, the drums and guitar combine to create an energetic sound. Without a doubt I would recommend this album to anyone who wants to hear a different sound than what is normal in the post-hardcore and the electronic hardcore genres.
