HCP isn’t just a building full of homework robots with no lives. There’s a strong appreciation for arts of all kinds. Here’s a quick look at the music some Harding students and teachers want to promote.

The Marionette staff

Isis Frazier: “Oh Tragedy” by Alteras

“This band followed me on Twitter and I am in love with the lead vocalist’s sound and more bands with fewer fans should be promoted.”

Elizabeth Brosius: Franz Ferdinand – Franz Ferdinand (album)

“I like upbeat music and because it is dark like my soul.”

Gabriel di Gregorio: “Depth Over Distance” by Ben Howard

“I found this song while on a night drive. It instantly became a favorite. Go check-check-check-check it out.”

Stephanie Emerson: “Jackie and Wilson” by Hozier

“I like his soulful voice and the way the lyrics flow together.”

Kaitlyn Smith: “Irresistible” by Fall Out Boy

“I just started getting into them and I fell in love with this song. His voice is amazing.”

Camila Gonzalez: “Somebody” by Depeche Mode

“This song gives me all of the feels a person could ever feel. It’s surprising to hear this stripped piano ballad from an artist that I’d usually associate with gay bars in the 80’s. This track is raw and beautiful. I appreciate how the lyrics don’t always rhyme seamlessly or go where you’d expect. It makes it feel like these are real emotions that a real person experienced and I cannot stress all the feels it gives me.”

The teachers

Allison Stroud: “La Gozadera” by Gente de la Zona

“It reminds me of a summer I spent in Argentina when it seemed like everyday there was a flash mob in the streets. Buenos Aires is a very energetic city and I really miss the excitement.”

Michael Ferguson: Let the Good Times Roll – J.D. McPherson (album)

“McPherson is a Broken Arrow-based musician whose sound seems pulled straight out of the 1960’s. I don’t really dance, but this album makes me want to.”

Kelli Taylor: “Don’t Wanna Fight” by Alabama Shakes

“I love the guitar riff, and the lead singer’s voice is really unique and gritty. It’s a nice departure from my usual 90’s jams.”

Kyle Malzahn: “The Beautiful Untrue” by Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club

“Very diverse, and very different than the oh-so predictable corporate crap being turned out to the masses.”
