With Fall just around the corner, that means it is time for hoodies, hot chocolate and of course, movies! Here is a list of upcoming movies that we are looking forward to.

ACTION

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 is the final installment in the Hunger Games series written by Suzanne Collins.  Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hucherson and Liam Hemsworth, it follows the fight against the Capital for the liberation of all 13 Districts.  Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) has been a symbol of hope for the citizens of Panem, but in this revolutionary war she risks it all.  Directed by Francis Lawrence, the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 can be expected in theaters November 20th.

From author James Dasher, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is the second sci-fi action segment in the Maze Runner saga. The story follows Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and the Gladers on their search for a mysterious and powerful organization called WCKD. On their quest, Thomas and the Gladers are brought to a stark, obstacle-filled landscape called Scorch. Joining resistance fighters, they take on the forces of WCKD and discover the plans they had in store for them. Directed by Wes Ball, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials hits theaters September 18th.

COMEDY

Starring Naomi Watts and Elle Fanning, About Ray is a comedy about a family facing change. Born a female, Ray (Elle Fanning) comes to realize that she is not meant to be a girl and decides to start her transition from female to male. However, she must track down her biological father for his legal consent with the help of her mother, Maggie (Naomi Watts) and her grandmother Dolly (Susan Sarandon) who is having a hard time coming to terms that the fact that her granddaughter will become her grandson. About Ray will arrive to theaters September 18th.

In this upcoming comedy Robert De Niro stars as a 70 year old senior whose retired life is not what he expected it to be.  Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) takes an opportunity to become an intern for Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway) at an online fashion site.  Directed by Nancy Meyers, the Intern hits theaters September 25th.

HORROR/THRILLER

Set to come to theaters September 25th, Before I Wake brings a new take at horror genre. After the loss of their son, young couple Jessie (Kate Bosworth) and Mark (Thomas Jane) welcome their home to Cody (Jacob Tremblay), a heartwarming little boy who is afraid to go to sleep. At first Jessie and Mark believe that Cody’s new adjustment to their home is causing his unrest but they then find it is something much worse: When Cody sleeps, his dreams become reality. His imagination could be either beautiful but then his night terrors are horrific. In an attempt to save their family, Jessie and Mark will do anything to find out the truth about Cody’s nightmares.

Regression, starring Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke, follows the story of a young girl, Angela (Emma Watson) who accuses her father (Ethan Hawke) of committing a crime.  Although her father has no memory of the events, he pleads guilty.  When he unexpectedly admits guilt, a well known psychiatrist is brought in to help relive his memories.  What they discover throws them into a nation wide mystery.  Directed by Alejandro Amenabar, Regression hits theaters December 31st.

DRAMA

Based on a true story, Kate Mara and David Oyelowo play the lead roles in this thriller about a single mother struggling with drug addiction who is held hostage in her own apartment. Brian Nichols (David Oyelowo) escapes from jail and murders the judge assigned to his case before finding himself randomly taking Ashley Smith (Kate Mara) hostage. However, despite the danger and tension between the two, they begin to realize that they are actually saving each other’s lives. Captive will be in theaters September 18th.

Based on a true story, Pawn Sacrifice is set during the Cold War.  The story focuses on a chess prodigy named Bobby Fischer (Toby Maguire) as he prepares to face Russian Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber) in a renowned match-up.  Directed by Edward Zwick, Pawn Sacrifice will be in theaters September 16th.

CHILDREN’S

The Good Dinosaur is Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animations Studios latest animation movie.  This family friendly movie follows an alternate timeline in which dinosaurs never went extinct.  The story focuses on a surprising friendship between an Apatosaurus named Arlo and a human boy, and their adventures together.  The Good Dinosaur hits theaters November 25th.

Sony Picture Animations brings their second segment of Hotel Transylvania to theaters September 25th. Dracula, voiced by Adam Sandler, has finally opened his hotel to human guests but he is beginning to worry when his half-human, half-vampire grandson shows no signs of vampirism. Before Dracula’s daughter, Mavis, voiced by Selena Gomez, moves away from the hotel to find a safer place for her son, Dracula and his friends decide to put his grandson through a “monster-in-training” bootcamp in order to bring the vampire out of him. This family-friendly comedy is sure to be one that children love.
