HCP students were excited for the first home basketball game to kick off the season.

Friday night, the gym was filled with green and white as many people came out to support both the girls and boys basketball team during their first home game against the Oklahoma City Knights.

The varsity boys took a win against the Knights with a score of 63-59, with junior George Price leading the team with 21 points.

This win puts the boys at 3-0.

“I feel that starting out so strong gives us a lot of confidence and it just drives us to keep winning,” Price said.

As captain of the boys team, Price takes on his role as a leader seriously.

“Leading the team is just my job. I do all I can to motivate my team to win and to play as one,” he said.

Unfortunately, the girls team battled it out with a very close score but ended with a loss with a score of 46-43. The girls are currently 0-2.

“It’ll be a long season, but I think we can tough it out,” said sophomore Alexis Harris.

Previously, both the boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Seminole to play against Wister at Seminole State College.

The boys took home a win with a score of 87-55 and the girls lost 69-26.

Boys coach Wade Wallace wants his boys to enjoy their winning streak but also continue to improve.

“I’m excited for them,” he said. “I hope they can keep it going but they have a long road ahead of them.”

However, the captain of the girls team, Payton Langley, has high hopes for the season.

“With work and coming together as a team, I feel like everything will just click,” Langley said.
