2019 December Debrief

As Harding decks the halls this holiday, multiple events will take place right before the semester ends, like the annual Mitten tree in the Media center, the Band and Orchestra concert and ugly sweater day.

Every year Kathleen Moore in the Media Center encourages students to donate unwanted mitens and hats to Independence charter schools, going from November 22 to the 18th of December. This year marks a special occasion, as it’s the 10th annual year of the mitten tree, which usually donates around 30-50 pairs of caps and mittens. The school used to donate to Independence a middle school in the area surrounding Shartel. “So far everything is going good,” Mrs. Moore said “Last year about 50 pairs were donated.”

Now the school donates to Positive Tommorows, a non-profit that helps kids who can’t afford mittens, gloves and hats for school during the winter. To encourage students to donate, an extra incentive is that for every three items donated, one hour of community service is awarded.

On Tuesday Choir, Band and Orchestra held a joined concert at 7 p.m., preforming in that order. Orchestra will be playing their concert peices plus two holiday selections, while Band plays three peieces and Choir will sing two

Today students will be able to show their holiday cheer by wearing ugly sweaters for $2.
