It’s spring time and for many of us that means it’s cleaning time for pretty much everything, including our lockers and desks.
“In high school I find it extremely hard to keep my locker clean, with all the supplies I take in and out of it,” said sophomore Lamarr Hankins.
Here at HCP we have monthly locker cleanings in advisory for a grade, to help us as students not only to stay organized with our daily supplies we bring to class every day, but homework assignments as well. Keeping lockers clean and free of food also deters rodents from making a home in your personal belongings.
“It’s extremely important for students to keep their lockers clean and well organized, so they will not lose homework,” said history teacher Justin Hixon.
So if you don’t know how to “spring clean” your locker, here are some helpful tips:
- Take everything out of your locker, even the ancient stickers or posters on the wall. Have a trashcan and recycle bins nearby.
- If your locker has a bad odor, put a little baking soda on a paper towel in the center of your shelf to absorb the odor. If it’s really bad, wipe down the walls and the door inside and out with Clorox wipes.
- While your locker dries, sort everything into three main piles such as throw away, take home and keep. Things sorted in the “throw away” pile should be put into the trash or recycling and items in the “take home” pile should be put in your backpack.
- Put everything from your keep pile back into your locker in an organized fashion. Put your textbooks, folders and notebooks on the shelf and binders on the floor of your locker, or the second shelf if there is one.
Clean your locker regularly, and over time, the task will take less time since the mess won’t have piled up from months of neglect.
