Saviors: A Review

After a long wait, American punk (often considered pop-punk) band Green Day’s 14th studio album, “Saviors,” has been released! The album was previewed by five well received singles, “The American Dream is Killing Me,” “Look Ma, No Brains!” “Dilemma,” “One Eyed Bastard,” and “Bobby Sox,” respectively. The album shows a bold, yet rather uncreative foray into the band’s more pop-punk sound. This aside, fans have generally received the album positively.

Many consider “The American Dream Is Killing Me” to be the highlight of the album, me included. The song, to me anyways, is reminiscent of their mid-2000’s sound, albums such as “American Idiot” and “21st Century Breakdown,” both masterpieces in their own right. The song combines their typical epic, pop-punk/punk sound with their trademark political lyrics to create an undeniably Green Day sound. Another song that I personally enjoyed was “Look Ma, No Brains”, with a sound also reminiscent of a bygone era- this time, their mid 90’s, rise-to-fame era, that had albums such as the classic “Dookie,” and “Kerplunk” (at least, that’s what I thought. I’m no expert.) The entirety of the album, however, has the making of a classic; with an ever evolving sound, Green Day has once again created an undeniable masterpiece of sound.

Of course, It’s not the best album Green Day has ever released. There are flaws aplenty. But despite any of these, it remains an excellent and unforgettable experience for any fan of Green Day, or just pop-punk in general.
