Lacy’s new album an authentic gem

Marcus Garner, Reporter

Steve Lacy’s second studio album “Gemini Rights” was released in July. Personally, it is his best work and the album of the year. Lacy produces and writes all his which to make every single one of his projects even more authentic.

The introduction song to the album is titled “Static.” “Static” is a slow post-breakup song poking fun at Lacy’s ex and of his ex-partners flaws and unhealthy habits (think of the best Taylor Swift boyfriend bashing song but polished better all around.)

This album gives the feel that you can play this just hanging out with friends and it can be the album where you go for comfort when you need it.

The lead single “Bad Habit” has reached No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and thousands of TikTok videos to go with the single. The chorus of the song is “I wish I knew you wanted me.” In the song he talks about how he did not speak up, “biting his tongue,” about his true feelings in a potential relationship.

My only complaint is that I wish this album were longer. The album has a run time of only thirty-five minutes. Which is a short album to me personally. Adding another 10 minutes to this already amazing album would make it even better.

Lacys’ transition from guitarist for the band “The Internet” to now a R&B MEGASTAR has been amazing to witness and I am extremely excited to see what is next for him.
