Harding had an exciting Homecoming night! The king and queen were crowned and then both teams played against Star Spencer.

Seniors Megan Smith, Tyra Owens and Maya Black were nominated for Homecoming Queen, and seniors Bryan Jones, Carus Newman and Nevin Bellows were nominated for Homecoming King. Smith and Jones were crowned the Homecoming Queen and King before the varsity games.

Athletic Director Mylo Miller was very excited about Homecoming overall, especially the crowd.

“Homecoming was very exciting and fun,” Miller said. “We had the largest crowd ever, so I compliment our students and parents that came out and supported the basketball teams.”

The girls had a competitive but tough game against Star Spencer with a score of 33-62. Freshman Rachel Newman was upset with how the girls performed.

“I think that we played hard, but we did not have the best performance,” Newman said. “At the time teamwork was a big issue that we needed to work on, but since then we have worked on it and it has gotten a lot better.”

Miller has an optimistic outlook on the girl’s performance.

“The girls’ basketball team is very young and will get better with each game due to the experience that they will gain,” he said.

The boys had a successful but close game against Star Spenser with a win of 81-80. During the fourth quarter, the boys gave up a 15 point lead which caused the close game.

Senior Nevin Bellows was pleased with how the boys performed at the game.

“I think that we played very well with good execution,” Bellows said, “we let them get too many second chances with rebounds, but we realized how the game was going and what we needed to do to get back ahead.”

Miller was also very excited about how the boys played at Homecoming.

“I think that they played really well and overall just need to play with a more sound defense and go back to the fundamentals of basketball,” he said.

Even though Bellows is pleased with how the team played, he still thinks that there is room for improvement.

“We could have boxed out better and gotten more rebounds,” Bellows said.

The next game is against Wewoka on Senior Night.
