As Thanksgiving is around the corner, families from around the country gather. For many students and families, this holiday is packed with traditions that bring everyone together.
Thanksgiving is the start of the holiday season, and for students, it’s a relaxing time off school. Students get the chance to catch up with the family they haven’t seen, make new memories and share gratitude.
While Thanksgiving may be about giving gratitude, each family can have their unique tradition to make it special. Many families like to reunite, play games, share stories and bring tasty food to the table. Some dishes might be classic dishes like mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and of course, the turkey. Others add cultural dishes or their own twist.
“My favorite dish has to be mac ‘n cheese; you can never go wrong with that,” sophomore Lela Brown said. “A tradition my family and I always do is dancing to music or doing karaoke.”
Other families might be more intimate or simple.
“My family and I just eat together and chill at home,” sophomore Miranda Arredondo said.
Some families like to spend it fun and loud, while others prefer a calm Thanksgiving. No matter how they want to spend it, their traditions reflect what Thanksgiving means to them.
It doesn’t matter if you celebrate big or small, the meaning stays the same. When you spend time with family, share moments, and eat tasty food. Everyone is excited for the warmth Thanksgiving brings for the start of the holiday season.
